GM foods are made through a process known as genetic engineering. Genes of commercial interest are transferred form one organism to another. People take a bit of one plants DNA which carries their genetics and inject it into another plant to make it look different. The gene gun is one of the various methods used to do this. The DNA that has to be transferred is coated onto tiny particles and then they are physically shot into the plant.
